Have you ever been speaking Chinese, but felt like no one understood what you actually mean? (Business Chinese Speaking)

Unfortunately, if you don’t know how to speak business Chinese, this can happen a lot!

Maybe you already speak very good Mandarin Chinese. But using business Chinese in conversation is a whole new game.

If you want to be a successful business professional, you have to speak professionally.

If you don’t know the right phrases and expressions, you may be left out of the conversation. People may not receive what you actually means. (Business Chinese Speaking)

Learning to use the right kind of language will get you feel much easier. It will help you to communicate better and make people understand what you want to express

So, what’s the actual difference between daily/general Chinese and business Chinese?

How Is Speaking Business Chinese Different?

Listen to your neighbor as he tells you about his last vacation. Compare that to a speech by a Chinese speaking CEO or government official. There is a distinct difference and it’s not hard to hear it.

Business Chinese is just another way of talking that you have to get used to. When you’re at work, you’ll use different vocabulary than you would when speaking to family or friends. At the same time, you’ll hear popular phrases in business Chinese that are also spoken elsewhere.

Business Chinese uses a lot of common expressions, like 脚踏实地 (jiǎo tà shí dì) which literally means to have one’s feet firmly planted on the ground (idiom); in English means “be down-to-earth”, realistic without flights of fancy, focus on the fundamentals. It’s an extremely positive chengyu. Here’s an example : “ 我们要脚踏实地地工作。 (Wǒmen yào jiǎo tà shídì de gōngzuò.) It’s important to have a down-to-earth attitude towards work.

Expressions like these are called idioms or slang. Real business people speak like this every day.

It’s important to understand these expressions when they’re used. It’s even more important to speak using them at the right time in a conversation.

It doesn’t matter if you have an accent. But if the phrases you use don’t fit the situation, you’ll sound awkward and out of place.
